Inkscape 1.0-beta regression for windows installer

the Adib-2
Hi All,
I did not see the windows installers uploaded.
So I tried to create my own.

As the binaries moved from inkscape/ to inkscape/bin/ the installers do fail.
Both the .exe and the .msi installer are affected.

I succeeded fixing for .msi and still working on .exe.

I would like to push the changes. Is the codebasis closed? Or can I simply push?
Hints how to proceed?

Regards, Adib.

Re: Inkscape 1.0-beta regression for windows installer

Hi Adib,

short version as I don't have a lot of time right now:
Don't waste any time on existing installers. I gave this quite some thought and intend to drop them in favor of a cmake/cpack-based solution.

I hope this will put an end to the many flaws our custom installers currently have. Also this will ensure things are installed properly automatically (i.e. no need for manual updates going forward).

Cheers

Hi Patrick,

I did a "cpack -G WIX"
And that created an .msi package. :-)

If we are going to use this from now on, we should:
- publish the installer (only .msi or both?) immediately for beta
- remove the custom made scripts from source distribution
- update the wiki docs accordingly

Regards, Adib.

Hi Adib,

yes, Mc worked previously on getting basic cpack functionality in place and you can already produce a working .msi as you've seen yourself.

As it's still a bit barebones my plan for the release is to review the settings, ideally set up a few components, make sure installation/uninstallation works as expected and eventually polish it a bit with the about screen artwork. As soon as it's in a publishable state I'll upload beta installers (.exe and .msi) and call for some help in testing.

Unfortunately I've been caught up in other things lately, which is why I'm a bit behind schedule, but I've done most of the investigation already, so it mostly needs doing at this point.

Cheers
Patrick
