Good news:  Gentoo has just upgraded to Inkscape 0.41 as stable on x86
and four other platforms:

Great, just in time for the 0.42 release!  ^_-

(Actually, getting 0.41 packaged should make packaging 0.42 much
easier for them.)

Yeah, if you have a good maintainer it takes very little time. Usually by the
time we have released a new version of Scribus, the update is in within 12h
if not less. It helps when the dependencies do not change. If they havent
much between 0.41 and 0.42 it should be pretty smooth sailing. When you
release 0.42 and submit the Gentoo bug, its important to say that the
dependencies have not changed or what has specifically.

Yeah, I figure they'll like having x86 (stable) set to 0.41, and have
0.42 for ~x86 (unstable), but I'm also hoping they'll be able to test
and upgrade to 0.42 more quickly now.
